What is an AI agent?

An autonomous AI that carries tasks end to end, not just answers.

AI agent · autonomous agent

An AI agent does more than answer: it breaks down a goal, uses tools (CRM, email, APIs, search), chains actions and drives to the outcome, with minimal human intervention.

Why it matters

This is the leap beyond the chatbot: an agent can qualify a lead, draft a quote, follow up, update the CRM. Well designed and supervised, it expands the team's capacity without hiring. The risk is launching it with no guardrails or measurement.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an AI agent and a chatbot?
A chatbot answers questions; an agent acts. The agent uses tools and chains steps to reach a goal, for example handling a request end to end, whereas the chatbot stays conversational.
Can you trust an AI agent?
Only if it is framed: a limited scope of action, human validation on sensitive actions, logging and measurement of results. That framing is what separates a serious deployment from a risky gimmick.
