What is E-E-A-T?

The four qualities Google and AIs look for in content: lived experience, expertise, authority, trust.

E-E-A-T · experience, expertise, authority, trust

E-E-A-T (experience, expertise, authoritativeness, trustworthiness) is Google's reading grid for judging the quality of content and its author. It is not a technical score but a body of evidence: who writes, with what real experience, recognized by whom, and verifiable how. AI answer engines apply a similar logic when choosing whom to cite.

A concrete example

Example

Two articles on the same topic: one anonymous and generic, the other signed by an identifiable practitioner, dated, with numbers from their own files and mentions in the trade press. The second wins, on Google and in AI answers alike.

Why it matters

Now that producing text costs nothing, proof of real experience has become the true differentiator. Content that shows lived practice (real cases, first-hand numbers, an identifiable author) is precisely what engines, classic and AI, surface.

Frequently asked questions

How do I show E-E-A-T concretely?
Sign your content with an author page, date it, cite your sources, publish numbers and cases from your own practice, display your certifications and reviews. Every verifiable element is a brick of trust.
Can generative AI hurt my E-E-A-T?
Content generated with no original material and no expert review drags perceived quality down. Used as an assistant on your real material (your cases, data and method) and reviewed by an expert, it accelerates without degrading.
